HMRC is changing the way you submit your VAT returns

From 1st April 2019 HMRC is changing the way you submit your VAT returns. They require VAT registered businesses with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold to use the Making Tax Digital service to keep records digitally and use compatible software to submit their VAT returns. You will be required to do this for your first VAT return for the period starting on or after 1 April 2019.

If you use spreadsheets to prepare your VAT return you can continue to do so but you will no longer be able to submit the figures via your HMRC online account. However, as an agent we can offer a service, should you wish, to submit the figures using our bridging software which will digitally report the VAT information in your spreadsheets directly to HMRC.*

If you use an accounting software package to prepare your VAT returns this will now require a function to allow you to connect and report directly to HMRC. If this function is not available on the software you are currently using, we can offer the same service, should you wish, to submit your VAT return figures using our bridging software. *

As an alternative we can offer advice on the various accounting software packages available to you which connect directly to HMRC or if preferred we can offer our in-house bookkeeping service for which we would be happy to provide a quote.

If you would like our assistance with the transition to MTD or wish to discuss further please get in touch.
